Ohio Healthy Programs (OHP) is a healthy eating, physical activity, and development training for early childhood health professionals that promotes policy, systems, and environmental changes in the early care and education setting.
OHP is now offered online and in-person in select areas of Ohio. The in-person training provides 15 hours of Ohio Approved professional development while the online trainings provide 8 hours of Ohio Approved professional development.
The training is broken down into 3 sessions: Healthy Habits, Healthy Menus and Healthy Policies.
- Healthy Habits—Session 1 (Parts 1-4) is designed for the lead teacher of each age group
- Healthy Menus—Session 2 is designed for the cook or person who plans the menus
- Healthy Policies—Session 3 is designed for the administrator
A child care site can apply to become a designated Ohio Healthy Program upon completing all trainings, aligning with OHP menu requirements, adopting a healthy policy, and engaging families on an OHP related topic. OHP designation is valid for one year. OHP designated sites are encouraged to renew designation by ensuring all program requirements are met.
ECOPP partners with the Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (OCCRRA) to implement OHP. Since 2014, over 27,000 child care providers have participated in OHP trainings and more than 400 sites have earned designation as an Ohio Healthy Program. A list of current OHP designated sites can be found on OCCRRA’s website.
