COVID-19 Checklist for Park Administrators
Protecting Against COVID-19
Ohio Department of Health Director Amy Acton, M.D., MPH, strongly recommends that park administrators take the following actions.
- Post information throughout the park and on social media to frequently remind visitors to take steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These messages may include information about:
- Staying home if you are sick or do not feel well.
- Using social distancing and maintaining at least 6 feet between individuals in all areas of the park.
- Not gathering in groups.
- Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash. Take a trash bag with you in case trash cans are not available at the park.
- Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- Using hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
- Refraining from touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Make sure visitors are social distancing in popular areas of the park. Consider temporary closure of areas where people are likely to gather, such as sporting fields and courts, skateparks, and picnic areas. Playgrounds have been ordered closed in Ohio. Use physical barriers and signs to designate areas that are closed.
- Be as flexible as possible with staff attendance and sick-leave policies. Remind staff to stay at home if they are sick. Isolate and send home anyone who exhibits fever, cough, or shortness of breath.
- Allow staff who can perform work from home to do so. Consider offering revised duties to staff who are at higher risk of severe illness with COVID-19.
- Regularly provide staff with up-to-date information about COVID-19 and park policies. Communicate the importance of practicing preventive actions.
- Check in with your local health department for additional guidance and follow all local rules.

- Get adequate sleep and eat well-balanced meals
- Wash hands often with water and soap (20 seconds or longer)
- Dry hands with a clean towel or air dry your hands
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands or after touching surfaces
- Clean and disinfect "High-Touch" surfaces often
- Call before visiting your doctor
- Practice good hygiene habits

CLEAN ALL "HIGH-TOUCH" SURFACES EVERY DAY
High touch surfaces include counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, phones, keyboards, tablets, and bedside tables. Also, clean any surfaces that may have blood, stool, or body fluids on them. Use a household cleaning spray or wipe according to the label instructions. Labels contain instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning product including precautions you should take when applying the product, such as wearing gloves and making sure you have good ventilation during use of the product.
