The counts below reflect current and cumulative cases of COVID-19 among facility staff and residents reported to the Ohio Department of Health. Current case counts are defined as residents or staff that had active COVID-19 infection during the prior week (Wednesday through Tuesday). Cumulative counts are defined as residents or staff that had active COVID-19 infection at any point from April 15, 2020 onward. The cumulative totals do not include patients or staff who have recovered, have been hospitalized, or have passed away prior to April 15, 2020. These numbers will be updated each Thursday.

As these data are reported to ODH weekly, there may be ongoing adjustments to the cumulative case numbers. This can occur when a probable case pending testing is reclassified as not a case following negative test results and subsequently removed from the cumulative count. It can also occur if there are corrections for data reported in previous weeks (e.g., data inadvertently entered for cases prior to 4/15/2020).

This information does not replace a thoughtful conversation with facility staff about their current infection control practices and mitigation strategies. Questions that families might ask a care facility include:

• What are you doing currently to protect residents from COVID-19?
• What precautions do you take when you do identify a person who is symptomatic of COVID-19?
• How are families kept apprised of changes related to your infection control policies?

In addition, residents and family members should understand that the presence of COVID-19 at a facility is no way an indicator of a facility that isn’t following proper procedures. Families should always feel free to ask questions of the facility where their loved one resides, and if not satisfied, contact their local ombudsman.

Note: Some long-term care facilities listed are designated healthcare isolation centers (HCIC). An HCIC is a facility that has been authorized to accept COVID-19 patients for isolation and care. HCIC case counts include patients who have been admitted into the facility’s isolation center.
