COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Dashboard
COVID-19 vaccines are effective and are a critical tool to bring the pandemic under control. However, there is no vaccine 100% effective at preventing illness in vaccinated people. There will be a small percentage of people fully vaccinated against COVID-19 who still get sick, are hospitalized, or die from COVID-19.
The COVID-19 Vaccine Breakthrough Dashboard displays weekly data reported to the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) regarding the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths among individuals who are fully vaccinated against the disease. The following criteria must be met for a COVID-19-related hospitalization or death to be confirmed as a COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough:
- U.S. Resident
- Completed full primary series of an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine
- SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antigen detected on a respiratory specimen collected ≥14 days after completing the primary series of an FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine
- No known positive test for SARS-CoV-2 RNA or antigen detected on a respiratory specimen collected in the 45 days before the most recent positive test
ODH is making COVID-19 data available for public review while also protecting privacy. This dashboard will be updated weekly each Thursday. Please see footnotes below for more details.
